Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to generate images of multiple organs and vessels. Typical ultrasound examinations include evaluation of the abdominal and pelvic organs, including obstetrical studies, as well as evaluation of the thyroid gland, scrotum and soft tissue masses. Vascular ultrasound is an excellent non-invasive study to evaluate the carotid, abdominal and peripheral arteries and is commonly a crucial study for the detection of upper and lower extremity venous thrombosis.
