Mammography is the evaluation of the breast and its diseases and typically refers to the use of high resolution x-ray systems to make detailed images of the breast. Ultrasound and MRI are other imaging modalities used by mammographers to evaluate breast disease. Mammographers also perform procedures such as ultrasound-directed core or fine-needle aspiration biopsy, galactography (study of breast ducts), as well as mammographically-directed mammotome biopsies.
